Christmas Vacation in Cape Town, South Africa

To have one the best Christmas vacations of your life, where you can experience all different parts of the world in one place, then come to Cape Town, South Africa. This popular destinations super for adults and children alike and has do much to offer in the way of Christmas festivities.

In Cape Town you can have a beach Christmas and stay along the warmer Indian Ocean side and swim in the waters of Fish Hoek, Muizenberg, Hermanus and Strand where you are also likely to spot a whale or two. Many beach activities are common including touch rugby, friendly cricket tournaments and volley ball. If you travel along the Atlantic Ocean side, chances are you won't swim but rather enjoy the beach festivals like at Camps Bay and Clifton where you will enjoy live bands and dancers, promotions and contests including the Miss Bikini competitions.

If beaches are not your thing; then how about spending your Christmas holiday in Cape Town in the Wine lands? Gorgeous rolling valleys will be covered in vineyards and you can experience many wine tasting adventures and fun Christmas specials. Visiting the historic cellars, buildings and many other attractions are interesting. To get the best of both worlds you can choose to stay in the center of Cape Town at one of the luxury world class hotels, or just outside of the city center you can find beautiful villas and hotels that are a stones throw away from the vast countryside or the quaint villages with beaches.

For those that have not done their Christmas shopping yet there are plenty of malls in Cape Town to satisfy all tastes. From unique African curious, to funky international name brands, and chic proudly South African haute couture, you will definitely be able to find a memento for each place you visit and the perfect Christmas presents for the whole family.

You can also retreat to an African game lodge with wild animals and bird life not far from Cape Town. These Christmas vacations are great fun for all and you can have great Christmas lunches there. With Cape Town being so rich in culture and heritage, many choose different times to celebrate their opening of presents and the Christmas meal. Some choose Christmas Eve or Christmas night as it is cooler to eat such a big meal, and some have a Christmas barbeque (called a braai) which is fun around the pool.

There are beautiful churches of any denomination to attend, where midnight mass services and Christmas morning and Christmas evening services are available. During these services the nativity scene is set up and the Christmas story is told. Other nativity plays are usually done at schools and at other parks and arenas around Cape Town.

There is so much more to do in Cape Town during the Christmas season and one thing not to be missed is the switching on of the Christmas lights in the city center which covers the entire main road. There are clubs and bars, tons of shows and concerts, carols by candlelight, and much more; so for a different, exciting Christmas, Cape Town is the place to be.
